Kate currently works as a transition diabetes specialist nurse for the NHS in County Durham and Darlington. She has a post graduate certificate in practice development, a Masters level diabetes module in children and the young and is an non-medical prescriber.

Kate has a special interest and enthusiasm in transition and young adult diabetes care. She has presented transition focused topics at local network meetings and at study days at James Cook Hospital.

Kate is keen to establish the role of transition diabetes specialist nursing and recognises that there is a unique blend of skills that encompasses both paediatric and adult diabetes care within the role. Collaborative working is paramount to Kate.

The DSN Forum UK has been invaluable to Kate when she first became a diabetes specialist nurse and when developing in her role, she is keen to help other diabetes specialist nurses from both adult and paediatric specialties.
