Elaine qualified as a registered dietitian in 2014, returning to university study after a career break from Investment Banking.  During her career break, she volunteered as a magistrate.

After qualification, Elaine worked at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey and St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester as an acute dietitian giving nutritional support to Respiratory, Acute Medical Unit, Care of the Elderly, Orthopaedic, Surgical, Neuro-Rehab and Vascular wards, as well as the Parkinson’s Disease and Cardio-Rehab outpatient clinics.   

Elaine began her diabetes specialist journey in 2016 at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester: working with patients living with Type 2 diabetes in outpatient clinics at 22 GP surgeries.  She supported ladies with Gestational diabetes, and taught carbohydrate counting with meal time insulin dose adjustments to patients living with Type 1 diabetes at the Diabetes Centre. 

Elaine moved to Diabetes Care For You as a Senior Diabetes Specialist Dietitian in 2021.  Her current community caseload includes adult and young adult patients living with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, Type 3c diabetes and LADA, and she is part of the newly created Hybrid Closed Loop Pump service team.  She has created and continues to deliver both Type 1 and Type 2 structured group education to patients, and also delivers diabetes education to the local primary care nurses.  

Elaine is a BDA (The Association of UK Dietitians) media spokesperson and wrote the current BDA Type 1 Diabetes Food Fact Sheet in 2021. She has had articles published in BDA Dietetics Today, as well as quotes in the national press. Elaine has contributed to television programmes, both behind and front of camera.  She has spoken at national diabetes events, and on the radio.

Elaine volunteers with Help Madina Diabetes MDT, and travelled to Sierra Leone in 2024 (along with other members and affiliates of the DSN Forum) to help support and educate the health care professionals at Holy Spirit Hospital, Makeni.
